Moments - Numero Dos

I have been learning spanish off-late...and to be honest...outright honest...my spanish sucks...people either speak spanish or dont speak spanish...there is this very very small group...a third category of people who neither speak spanish nor 'dont speak spanish'...if you know what I mean...and me falls in that 3rd category...Any spanish speaking person hearing me speak spanish is sure to hang himself...so what can I do....i need someone to practise my new language...so I thought lemme try speaking to spanish kids...how good can their spanish be...we will be on the same boat...can feel each other's inability to speak the language properly...so this is what happened...

Kodak Moment #4

I was waiting for my name to be called...2 spanish kids playing beside me....their mom is being attended to...cant find a better opportunity..me picks the older kid.

"hai" me says
she jus smiles
"buenos noches?" (good evening)
she smiles again
"como estas tu?" (how r u)
"this is my younger sister"
*common thats not the answer...and you are not supposed to talk in english*
"donde esta tu casa?" (where is your house?)
"maaamaaa" and she runs away to her mom...

I was shocked...i mean three simple questions...cant she answer:(

Kodak Moment #5

After having had no luck with kids...my attention turned towards objects...kids dont reply to my question...and so do objects...but atleast i have someone to talk to...so I started wishing cars good mornings...buses good nights...and its too hard to get out of this routine you see...so at work when i was getting coffee from the vending m/c I was forced to thank the vending machine.

"mucho gracias senor Vending Machine!" (Thanks a lot Mr. Vending Machine)

just when i uttered that one of my colleagues enters the break room...you should have seen the look on his face....this time me felt like calling "maaamaaa" and running to my mom:(

The kiddo would have thought that you are trying to 'kid'nap him so that z why he ran to his mama...

The best way to Practise Spanish is to go to the beach and stand in water upto your neck height and eat a burrito and speaking Spanish with the nature !!

Are you sure that the kids were spanish?

But I am surprised to know about a person who thanks coffee vending machine. "Indha nandri ketta ulagathil ippadium oru jeevana -- nee oru pudhumai-penna" endru solli, indha vaip-pukku nandri koori vidai perugikiraen. Nandri Vanakkam.

Wow too much of Patti Mandram on TV has infected my communication skills.

Funny piece. You really did that? Talking to buses and cars and coffee machines? Man, that is hilarious.

Interesting. I've had similar experiences during my unsuccessful attempts to learn Espanol and Deutsch :)

Yo hablos Espanol, una pequena - and now mi esposa is trying to learn Espanol.

Good luck, the hardest part is finding people to practise your skills on - but then again, living as you are in El pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de Los Angeles del Rio de Porciuncula, it shouldn't be *too* difficult :)
